Job offer: Early Stage Researcher position on tool coatings, MaMiNa project

Dear colleagues,

We are still offering an Early Stage Researcher position on tool coatings, starting at November 1, 2008. Our institute is part of the Marie-Curie Initial Training Network MaMiNa, funded by the European Commission (www.mamina.eu).

Please have a look inside your research group/institute/organisation, if you can identify researchers, who could be interested in this position.

Early stage researchers (ESRs) are researchers that are within the first 4 years of their career. Researchers, that have already finished a doctorate work, can not apply.

The ESR will mainly work at our institute with shorter visits at some other partners of the consortium. She/he will get an employment contract from our institute on the basis of a standard Marie-Curie living allowance. Travel allowances will be available too. These are the details of the position:

ESR position #S5 »Coatings on Singlecrystalline Nickel-Base Superalloys«
Time schedule: app. November 2008 until November 2009 (1 year)
The ESR will work on coating experiments of the nickel-base superalloy CMSX-4 at the Fraunhofer IST. Different coatings will be applied onto carriers made of CMSX-4 and analysed with respect to the adhesion behaviour and hardness, e.g. CVD diamond, amorphous carbon and titanium nitride based coatings. Depth-resolved chemical analyses of the coating and the intermediate layers will be performed by ESR S5 at EMPA, Switzerland, (1 month) as CMSX-4 contains many different alloying elements which could form intermetallics or other non-equilibrium phases due to the coating procedure. An industrial placement will be carried out by the ESR at SAFA GmbH, Germany, (2 weeks) and Oerlikon Balzers Coatings, Poland, (2 weeks).

The ESR will register at the Technical University Braunschweig and participate in the post-graduate program for one year.

I would be glad, if you could give me notice of young researchers, that may be interested. They can contact me or apply directly online at http://www.mamina.eu.

Best regards
Jan Gäbler
