Senior Microfabrication Engineer – Sylmar, CA USA

Second Sight Medical Products
Sylmar, CA USA
Position Type: Full Time
Relocation Provided: Yes

Job Description:

Are you looking for a career that will allow you to have a huge impact on people’s lives? Join the Second Sight team in bringing sight to blind individuals that were formerly thought to be untreatable.

Second Sight is looking for an engineer with strong microfabrication/thin-film experience to join the team that is creating the world’s first marketable prosthesis for restoring sight to people blinded by outer retinal degenerations, such as retinitis pigmentosa and macular degeneration. Similar to a cochlear implant, the retinal prosthesis is an active implant that electrically stimulates nerves to replace lost sensory function. The engineer will be a key player in the development and manufacturing of current and future retinal prosthesis designs. Second Sight is currently nearing the end of the clinical trial phase and is ramping up to market the implant in Europe and has over 93 employees in the US and Europe. The clinical trial of the first generation implant (Argus™ I) began in 2002 with a total of 6 subjects. With the experience gained from the Argus™ I trial, and further technological developments, a second generation device was created, the Argus™ II. After a 30-patient trial in 10 centers across Europe and the United States, the Argus™ II has received European market approval and US market approval is in progress. For more information go to:
