The University of Delaware solicits applications and nominations for a highly qualified Nanofabrication Facility Manager. The University is building a new, state-of-the-art, 10,000 square foot nanofabrication facility within the new Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering Building (ISEB) on the main campus in Newark, Delaware. This facility will enable long-term growth in research using nanofabrication tools, and a significant investment in equipment is anticipated. We anticipate that approximately 20 faculty members and 200 students will utilize the facility.

The successful Nanofabrication Facility Manager candidate will manage all aspects of facility operations which will include construction, fit-out and continued maintenance of the nanofabrication facility. This individual will be expected to provide expertise regarding strategic decisions and direction of capital equipment purchases and installation. This individual is also expected to contribute to both research and training efforts, to collaborate in the development of new nanofabrication processes and devices, to serve as the primary interface between the facility and users, and to supervise a staff of approximately six individuals. The Nanofabrication Facility Manager will also have primary responsibility for ensuring the safety and security of equipment and users through coordination and consultation with the other departments on campus including Environmental Health and Safety and Facilities Management.

Qualifications of the successful applicant will include: (1) a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Physical Sciences or related discipline, Master’s preferred, and seven to ten years of progressive experience with nanofabrication equipment, processes, and installation. (2) Supervisory, organizational, and/or management experience in an engineering research laboratory that demonstrates knowledge of safety regulations/requirements, the ability to make administrative/procedural decisions, analyze and solve problems, prioritize, plan and communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. (3) Effective interpersonal and customer-service skills that enable effective work with a diverse community in a rapidly changing technical environment.
